The automotive industry and the software revolution: spotlight on one of the technical papers from CESA 2025
At the CESA Congress held on February 12–13 2025, at the Palais des Congrès in Versailles, discussions focused on the technological transformations reshaping the automotive sector. Among conferences we had, one technical paper has been selected for publication in the Revue de l’Ingénieur de l’Auto : Detlef Zerfowski (ETAS GmbH) stood out for its clarity and strategic depth.

A key insight into the software-driven shift in automotive
Titled “Software Changes the Automotive Industry – Software Stacks Enforce New Development Paradigms”, Detlef Zerfowski’s paper offers a deep dive into the increasing role of software in the automotive value chain. It highlights a major shift: the transformation of the industry from mechanical and electronic foundations to a software-centric model, encapsulated by the concept of the Software-defined Vehicle (SdV).
A publication born from CESA 2025 discussions
As a key event for automotive electronics, the CESA Congress plays an important role in promoting applied research. The selection of this paper for publication highlights the richness of the discussions at the 2025 edition, which brought together industry experts, researchers, and institutions around tomorrow’s major challenges.
Detlef Zerfowski’s perspective perfectly reflects the current transformation: a call to rethink organizational models, business strategies, and engineering practices in response to the growing demands for connectivity, cybersecurity, and software innovation.
