Thermal Management of Fuel Cells for Medium and Heavy-Duty Architectures English Free

Abstract: Fuels cells are a potential power source for a carbon neutral powertrain of medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Their safe and efficient operation requires a thermal management of the system fuel cell with battery. Both the fuel cell and the battery are operating in different temperature windows. Therefore, a thermal management of the whole fuel cell powertrain architecture has to ensure safe and efficient operation under various ambient conditions and use cases to meet the lifetime requirements of commercial vehicles. Further, market uncertainties and potential fluctuations in future volumes are a decisive factor for technology development and market entry. A technical solution is presented to control coolant flow within the vehicle system and commercially meet market demands under various scenarios.
