SIA Simulation Numerique

Numerical simulation continues to be deployed in many fields, becoming indispensable in some technologies. The SIA Simulation congress, organised in April 2021 by the SIA, highlighted this progress and also revealed major innovations.

Two days of digital sessions, with up to three dense parallel sessions, giving rise to more than twenty presentations and two round tables, demonstrated that digital simulation continues to grow in maturity. Numerical simulation is also extending its fields of application into the fields of physics and has become essential in the design of autonomous vehicles.

Physical validation alone is sometimes no longer sufficient when many situations need to be explored. Thanks to the extension of numerical simulation further downstream of the design, it is now possible to combine tests and calculations up to the validation phases, especially once again for the autonomous car. This validation also extends to approvals: when simulations have shown similar results to physical measurements, their models can then be used to explore other situations.

Another innovation presented during these sessions is the very promising design of models using artificial intelligence, which allows digital processing to transform recorded signals into reusable models.

The conference also provided an opportunity for the SIA community of experts to share these advances with other communities, and particularly this year with experts in test facilities.
