Clean mobility is the key target for the automotive industry. For many years, Groupe PSA has been developing new solutions to prepare energy transition, and some of our products have already received international awards (i.e. engine of the year for PURETECH and THP engines). To go further, Groupe PSA is engaged in an electrification offensive starting this year: new vehicles with hybrid or electric version and in 2025, all the models of the five PSA brands will have an electrified version.
Groupe PSA has defined an electrified powertrain line up (Mild Hybrid, full Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Battery Electric Vehicles) with a scalable architecture to optimize and make progress either in CO2 performance or in cost management. Thus, gasoline engine is an essential part of the electrical powertrain to manage CO2 reduction and global extra cost of the powertrain by limiting sizing of electrical components.
With increasing electrification content, available electrical power gives some more flexibility to increase engine efficiency thanks to innovative solutions without unacceptable penalties which could occur in pure conventional engines.
TGDI downsized engines with combustion and air loop improvements can make good candidates for conventional or Hybrid application for compact design and high power density version. NA Atkinson engines with further improvements can also be relevant candidates for pure dedicated hybrid solutions.
Further challenge is to define optimum route among multi technical and economic scenarios, but potential gains are significant.
