Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has expanded its low-carbon, lightweight, Ingenium engine family with the introduction of an all-new 4-cylinder Gasoline engine, first anounced in 2016. The introduction of the gasoline engine builds on the success of the Ingenium Diesel engine introduced in 2015.
This paper will describe the control strategy challenges that resulted from combining a high tumble centre direct injection (DI) combustion system with a electro-hydraulic continuously variable valve-train (CVVL). This is the first production application of CVVL with intake a exhaust variable cam timing (VCT).
