The discussion about camera based adaptive light functionalities started noticeable in the year 2006 and led to the possibilities of ADB (Adaptive Driving Beam). Already in 2009 the first cars equipped with ADB functionalities have been introduced in the automotive world. The first full functionality product in this topic reached the market in 2010. Currently we see a rising number in car-models equipped with this technology. Beside the LED as light source also the enhancements of camera technology will increase the interest in ADB technology in the near future. Such technologies have usually been introduced in the premium car segment. Nowadays we see also midsize cars in the market equipped with such technologies. Due to the fact that such functionality is not only for comfort but also a significant aspect for driving safety the next step of ADB integration is the introduction in compact and subcompact cars. To reach this target it is necessary to achieve a significant reduction in ADB system costs. When we look to the inevitable sensor component, the camera, we see significant reductions in the price, combined with the fact that the light function is only one task for the camera beside other driver assistant functionalities. In addition to the camera we also have to provide cost reduced optical systems for this car segment. In this paper we show a reflector based optical LED concept for an ADB headlamp system. We will compare the performance of this system to the current high performance headlamps already in the market. We will discuss other concepts for simple ADB systems looking not only on the system performance and the price but also on styling aspects for such systems.
