Towards automotive failure rates

This paper aims at presenting a summary of all the discussions which took place at every level in order to figure out the best solution to be used for estimating the failure rate of a hardware part subjected to a safety analysis. By starting the discussion with recognized industry sources, the paper will explain why those sources of information do not cover every expectation expressed by the automotive industry, will detail the back-up solution initiated by the SIA community, will expose the alternative solutions engineered by Continental group for deriving automotive failure rates from well trusted designs.
