Nowadays, engine down-sizing and turbo charging become the most popular way for minimizing fuel consumption and CO2 pollution. But increasing torque at low speed of turbocharged engine leads some NVH issue such as whoosh noise. This whoosh noise which is a high frequency broadband noise is caused by the flow pressure fluctuation of turbocharger compressor.
In this paper, noise attenuation performance of various silencers has been discussed for high frequency band above 4 kHz. Beyond that, it has compared effect of reducing whoosh noise of some general solutions by applying those solutions on a 2.0 liter turbocharged gasoline MPV which exists an annoying whoosh noise between 4~10 kHz.The measurement results show that adding serialized slit-like expansion chambers silencer, adding straightening grids, pipe wall enhancement and dash insulator enhancement affect the best.

Finally, a combination solution has mainly solved the whoosh noise issue of this car.
