CO2 emissions reduction leads OEMs to search alternative power trains that optimize the overall electrical power flow. However effort on improving performance of conventional vehicles is still attractive. Developments on energy recovery and energy harvesting, offer significant amounts of "free" energy if properly managed. In this paper we propose a new architectural component named SEG (Smart Energy Gateway) able to interface and connect the different elements such as generators and storage elements, working at different voltages and to control the energy flow of the electric distribution system. In the scope of EE-VERT project, a first prototype has been developed and implemented.
