48V belt driven starter generator (BSG)-Systems with optimized energy storage systems for this field of application offer a high potential for improvement of future vehicle platforms regarding reduction of fuel consumption and CO2 emission while realizing most of the well known mild-hybrid functionalities. These mild-hybrid functionalities can be achieved by the voltage shift to 48V of the entire system. Thus in comparison to 12V systems advanced power demands such as energy recuperation ability in the regime of up to 10kW upon the vehicle braking phases can be satisfied. In the following the 48V-system regarding the components, relevant system parameters and design options will be discussed. By focusing on the most important customer demands, the view on potential degrees of freedom and a well balanced harmonization of the single components a 48V-BSG-system with a high cost-benefit is the final result.
