Powertrain 2026 – Student Challenge: SHAPING THE FUTURE OF Sustainable Mobility

At the Society of Automotive Engineers (SIA), we are committed to fostering and supporting the next generation of engineers shaping the future of mobility. Our annual Powertrain International Congress offers a unique opportunity for students to present their work through poster sessions, engage with experts, and explore exciting career paths across the mobility sector.

We invite students to submit their projects on the following key topics:

For all types of mobility — from the smallest L7 vehicle to the largest bus or truck. Applications are not limited to land transportation (maritime, aerial, off-road, industrial are also welcome).

  • Electric propulsion systems, including electric machines & power electronics
  • Batteries & electric energy storage systems
  • Hydrogen powertrains (fuel cells or hydrogen ICE)
  • Hybrid powertrains & low carbon fuels

We strongly encourage students to integrate additional aspects such as:

  • Eco-design, life cycle assessment (LCA), recycling, and repairability
  • Materials and their environmental impacts
