Journée d'étude : High Performance Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine
- 16 mai 2024
- Universite D'Orleans
Recap of the day
Hydrogen: The Competition Speeds Up!
For its third edition, the SIA "ICE H2" study day dedicated to hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines focused on high-performance applications. While the principles remain similar to the engines prioritizing efficiency found in heavy vehicles, the specific usage conditions of competition applications raise particular technical points.
Discussions largely revolved around stoichiometry, with a notable trend towards Lean configurations, which will require specific sizing of fuel system components. This edition also highlighted the authorities' confirmation of their orientation towards cryogenic storage, which allows for maximizing the amount of onboard hydrogen and facilitates the integration of storage tanks.
Through the presentation of their work and achievements, more than 160 participants from research institutes, equipment manufacturers, and automakers were able to review the state of the art and compare their understanding of the subjects that still need development.
Co-organized with the PRISME laboratory of the University of Orleans, this increasingly successful event particularly illustrates the SIA's ambition to bring together large communities of experts around emerging technological topics.
Introduction
“The replacement of fossil fuels by hydrogen for the operation of internal combustion engines is today one of the scientific research themes of great interest to manufacturers and equipment suppliers of commercial vehicles. Motorsport, supercar and high power density applications are also interested in hydrogen internal combustion engines.
After the 170 experts who came to the School of Arts et Métiers in Châlons-en-Champagne in 2022, 280 participants on March 30 in 2023 at the PRISME laboratory in Orléans, we are announcing the third edition of this conference dedicated to hydrogen as a source energy for internal combustion engines, in Orléans on May 16, 2024.
This year's conference will focus on “high-performance hydrogen internal combustion engines” for racing, supercar and other applications. As in 2024, we are expecting an exhibition of engine and vehicle demos.“
