CALL FOR PAPERS

The "CESA / Automotive Electronics" 2012 congress preparation is progressing well. As it stands today, we have already confirmation of more than 60 participants for key-notes and round table discussions including representatives from the automotive industry and adjacent industries such as electronics in general, railway, communication, city representatives and market research organizations from Europe, France, Germany, Japan and the Netherlands.
Technical sessions held before and after the roundtable discussions will allow attendees to get deeper into the subjects being discussed and offer detailed background insight.

Roundtable discussions will allow the audience to get a solid understanding of the complicated questions and tough discussions that are expected to be the focuses of this year’s conference.
But, it is still time to participate with a paper in the technical sessions!

As an appetizer here some names of keynote speakers:
  • Christophe PERILLAT, chief operating officer at Valeo on automotive electronics in general
  • Marc DUVAL-DESTIN, R&D Director at PSA on new mobility
  • Beatrice FOUCHER-SYBORD from Renault on Electric Mobility
  • Liam BRESLIN for the European Commission
  • Wolfgang RUNGE, ex-CEO of ZF and chairman of Baden-Baden conference on automotive electronics
  • Pierre GATTAZ, CEO of Radial and President of the French federation for electronics industry (FIEEC)
  • Joachim MATTHES from Valeo on Driver Assistance
  • Heinz PFANNSCHMIDT, ex CEO of Honsel and ex-VP of Visteon as representative for Roland Berger on electric mobility in Germany
  • Laurent MALIER, CEO of CEA-LETI on new technologies in power electronics
  • Hans-Georg FRISCHKORN, ESG and ex-VP Electronics at GM and BMW on consequences from mobility needs on technical solutions

Furthermore, there will be representatives from Nissan, SNCF, ATOS, ADEME, Amsterdam city, BOLORE, SAFT, Schneider Electric, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW-Peugeot-Citroën, BIPE, Renault, Continental Automotive, Robert Bosch, TRW, … and many more.

The CESA congress is a unique moment, where the whole French automotive industry has decided to meet and exchange about the latest trends, challenges and cooperations.
Don’t miss this event. There is only one every two years.
Think about it! You would be part of an excellent list of speakers if you decided to present on your products and activities.

TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED FOR TECHNICAL SESSIONS

New mobility /offers / Usage
Common mobility is a key for the development of modern society. Cars can no longer be seen as individual transport but instead we need to talk about their integration with other transportation systems such as trains but also their integration into a communication structure that allows for better traffic control in growing cities.
We expect there to be presentations from car manufacturers, mobility providers and urban authorities to give us an overview of the challenges and solutions.

Technology evolution / Driver Assistance / Challenges
After many years of R&D (and a lot of nice presentations on the underlying technology) driver assistance systems have finally become a commodity. ACC, LDW, automatic parking, … we expect presentations on experience with customers and hints for new developments.
What are the challenges today? Will we see soon first autonomous cars in the streets? What is needed to dispatch our technical solutions? What are the obstacles today?

Environment / Energy sources & infrastructure / Connectivity & Services
Electric vehicles will come. They will offer a variety of primary energies and thus allow independence from petrol sources. But there are still limitations in the battery technology and the need to recharge.
What are the trends in infrastructure? How will cars be charged in cities where people don't have garages?
How will energy providers cope with variable power demands? How can I find my next charging station? These are questions that we expect to get answers for.

Smart infotainment / HMI / Services
Almost two billion phones were sold last year in the world. Many were so called "smartphones" with incredible performance and applications that everyone has dreamt of but never dared to ask for. The development is accelerating as the operating systems allow for independent developers, you and me, to make an "app". But what does this mean for our cars? Will it be the end of embedded infotainment systems or will we see soon the first "smartphone" cars? How will the gap between consumer technology and car technology be closed? What are the new “smart” services and providers coming with this evolution?

Technical consequences (1) / Mechatronics, 48V / Dev tools and standards
The need for energy reduction has re-opened some discussions. 48Volt systems are one of the new (old) discussions. What is different this time? What will 48 V offer in terms of new systems?
How do we cope with the increased complexity of the systems? Will standards help us or make life more difficult? Will there be tools to help us?

Technical consequences (2) / Architectures, BMS / Cost of ownership / Ethernet
Architectures are also impacted by energy saving requirements. Partial networking will be an answer. Are there others? Is the car aiming to become the whole data communication infrastructure or just a client node of the Web? Is the automotive industry ready? Can we increase the life of the batteries? Does it make sense? How much are people able to pay?

New materials & components / (GaN, SiC, rare earth mat.) / Strategies & Dependency
Technological breakthroughs are key enablers to improving power efficiency and affordable solution costs. From research institutes to solution providers, material and components in the field of GaN, Silicon Carbide, rare earth magnets, and improved technologies for Micros and Power devices are taking up these challenges.
