The Future Market of Diesel Powertrain for Passenger Cars, European and Global

Diesel powertrain is often and regurlarly attacked by lobbies putting on the front its drawbacks. But what is the real balance between the disadvantages and the advantages of this diesel motorisation? And will this balance lead in the future to a decrease or an increase of the diesel engine vehicles?

The object of the present paper is to give clear elements to answer this question, from an analysis carried out by a team composed of economists and automotive engineers with a good knowledge of technologies.

This analysis is based on the treatment of a database gathering the quantities of cars which are produced and sold in the world, and the observation of technology evolution.
