There are many design challenges for the Hybrid and Pure-electric vehicles, and to effectively charge the 12V legacy battery is a major one. Traditional DC-DC converters accomplish this function with significant space and weight and relative low efficiency (less than 90% typically). The Double-Clamped, zero-voltage-switching converter eliminates the switching loss thus can achieve very high switching frequency, high power density as well as high efficiency. Together with a dedicated control chipset, this innovative converter achieves unprecedented power density in a lightweight automotive solution. In addition, it provides a modular design with stack capability for future power enhancement.
