DIESEL ENGINE AFTER TREATMENT CONFERENCE
November 27, 2008
Paris, France

With the control and reduction of CO2 emissions now a major issue for society as a whole, the diesel combustion engine - more efficient than its petrol counterpart - is set to play a key role in automotive engineering in the years to come. Growth in the European market and the increasing interest shown by new markets such as North America or Asia are clear signs of this.

Although advances in the area of turbo charging and high pressure injection have led to significant improvements in diesel engine performance, efforts to continue reducing emissions levels are vital. Today’s regulatory requirements impose the use of dedicated after-treatment systems that are both complex and costly. The technological challenge is to develop systems that are more innovative, less costly, more efficient, sustainable and neutral with regards to fuel consumption.

The importance of these issues is such that SIA is organizing a study day focusing on diesel after-treatment, within the framework of the international congress on the diesel engine held on May 28 & 29, 2008. The day devoted to “Evolution of emission control systems” will provide an opportunity to meet the leading specialists in this field, from the automotive industry, the associated equipment manufacturers, from the oil & petrochemicals industry, and representatives of major research laboratories and universities.

With even better environmental performance, the diesel engine will be able to take full advantage of its position as a low CO2 emitter.
