The primary goal of the rear signalization is linked to security, to assure that vehicle will be visible, as well as its maneuvers. However, many different external conditions, as sun light, rain, fog can drastically change the visibility conditions and render the car not or barely visible. Even though the driver himself can voluntarily turn on the lamps or fog lamp on, it depends on a judgment of the situation that is not always well adapted. In other situations, the classical rear lights intensities are not well adapted to night and day situation, traffic jam, etc. In our presentation, we explore how different strategies can be used along with the ARS concept – Adaptive Rear light System ECE legislation, to overcome the above mentioned security and comfort issues, keeping under control costs and design constraints.
