The adoption of the LED headlamps, which turn on quickly and have a highly visible white glow, increases as a safer and more eco-friendly headlamps. However, the many LEDs required to achieve the same brightness as HID headlamps makes the early LED headlamps more expensive and power-consuming. Koito have therefore developed a small, lightweight, power-saving LED module that integrates the lighting control circuit and achieves, with a single LED alone, the same high and low beams as HID headlamps. Combined with other features, the LED module allows the headlamps to offer more sophisticated functions and designs while meeting multiple purposes. The LED module also enables such variations as low beam only, high and low beams, ADB (Adaptive Driving Beams), and AFS(Adaptive Front Lighting System). This paper describes an LED module with high and low beam functions that we plan to release this year.
