Vehicle system simulation is a convenient way for the analysis of components and strategies impact on CO2 emissions. Such activities are achieved within Continental through a co-simulation approach that allows dissociating the physical model of the vehicle from the control model that implements the algorithms driving the actuators. The models are validated thanks to measurements giving confidence on the CO2 emission predictions they predict.
The simulation results enable to analyse how the primary energy from the fuel is used or lost in the various components of the vehicle. Typically this allows quantifying the CO2 reduction potentials through recuperation for instance.
The simulation approach, the validation of the model and some examples of applications will be described.
