Engine cold start is particularly critical for fuel consumption. Despite never ending engine and transmission refinement, the impact on NEDC can be as high as 5-10% depending engine and ambient temperature.
This paper presents the collaborative work carried out by Faurecia and Sogefi to further improve the engine warm-up reducing engine friction and providing an acceptable cabin comfort. This is achieved by using an exhaust energy recovery system positioned in the exhaust line and an active multi-way coolant valve for an enhanced thermal management of engine oil and coolant.
