On June 7th & 8th, the 29th edition of the SIA POWERTRAIN congress in Versailles was chaired by Philippe Bernet, Renault and Erwann Samson, PSA Group.

Nearly 600 international engine experts have exchanged and imagined the short / long term future of automotive engines in a technological world undergoing major changes during the electrification, Big Data, autonomous vehicles and economic-political- Environmental issues in France and around the world.

A participation increasing by 40% at the level of the participants and exhibitors, about sixty lectures and about ten student posters, are proof of the success of this annual meeting of the SIA organized by its Technical Session No. 1.
Erwann Samson (PSA Group) and Philippe Bernet (Renault Group), co-presidents of the Congress, have answered our questions (FRENCH ONLY) and proposed three major papers, presented exclusively for our Revue des Ingénieurs de l'Auto N ° 850 - SEPTEMBER 2017

For several years, the SIA and its Technical Section led by Pierre Duret of the IFP School have made the reception of students a priority. This year the schools presented a dozen posters which were exhibited with respect to the 590 participants and presented by the students before an attentive jury.

The three best teams were rewarded at the Awards ceremony with rewards from our partners and sponsors:

1er prix/ 1st prize: IFP School "Valorization of Engine-Off-Coasting Function on a Micro Hybrid Passenger Vehicle"

2ème prix / 2nd prize: ENSTA " Sizing the electric powertrain & minimal consumption study of a vehicle running the Shell Eco Marathon Urban Concept race"

3ème prix / 3rd prize: : IFP School "Design of a Test Bench for e-Motors"

The SIA would like to thank all the participants and speakers for having once again made the success of this event which, after edition, takes on such a magnitude that it will soon be necessary to "push the walls" of the Palais des Congrès Versailles!
Our thanks go especially to the sponsors, including FEV, AVL, SCHAEFFLER, Adaccess, IAV, Faurecia, Valeo, Ricardo, BorgWarner, Sonceboz, Aramco and Miba Group who actively contribute to its sustainability! Thank you very much.

Last but not least : SAVE THE DATE pour la prochaine édition du congrès : 16 & 17 May 2018 in ROUEN qui sera dédiée aux motorisations Diesel et toutes ses formes d’hybridation et d’électrification.

SIA powertrain_versailles 2017

The automotive industry is entering one of the most exciting periods in its history: driving aids, high-tech embedded systems, connected cars, large-scale hybridization… in an ultra-competitive environment.

Automotive powertrains, especially gasoline, are first in line to benefit from these opportunities but also to meet future challenges: provide global solutions at reasonable costs and provide performance benefits with increasing respect for environmental issues. Implementing overall powertrain optimization strategies plus hybrid energy distribution will also confirm transmissions’ key role.

In this context, the 2017 SIA Powertrain Congress in Versailles will address “The low CO2 gasoline engine of the future and its hybridization.” The gasoline engine, hybrid or not, has a major role to play:

  • it supports the international development of the automotive industry by meeting most global market needs,
  • it now offers leading performance through downsizing, and
  • its strong synergy with hybridization helps optimize benefits vs. costs.

The 2015 edition was a fantastic success: more than 400 participants, 50 technical papers, from more than 18 countries. Be part of this adventure and the Gasoline Powertrain revolution.
