For the 4th edition, APE Congress is not only a great conference about power electronics, but an enjoyable and cultural moment too. Indeed, the organizers – the SIA and the General Chair, Dominique Lhotellier – wished to create a special atmosphere around the French arts and technics which flourished in Versailles, under the French Kings’ reigns.

First of all, La Ferme du Manet, an ancient seigneury from the 18th century, has been chosen as the venue of the conference. With the stonework and the wooden frames, the Ferme is the perfect place for the Baroque music concert that will be offered to the audience before dinner, on April 6th evening.

Ensemble Sépia – Baroque music concert, April 6th 8:00pm

About Sépia (instruments)
Ensemble Sépia is a French ensemble of instrumentalists devoted to early music. It is declared as an association in France since May 2009 and includes the two founders Olivia Gutherz (baroque cello and viola da gamba) and Marie van Rhijn (harpsichord and organ), joined later by Amélie Boulas (early bassoon) and Ayumi Sunazaki (baroque flute). The musicians are happy to explore all the early music repertoire from the end of the 16th c. to the end of the 18th century and try to focus their work on research to re-discover composers less famous of these periods. Ensemble Sépia is offering original formations, interested in the various special instrumental colors. They have played at venues such as Festival Musique en Vercors, Moulin Brûlé (southern France), Dunkerque, Calais (northern France), and Jeunes Talents in Paris. They have received two bursaries by “Mairie de Paris”, allowing them to make their first recording “Melancholia” in April 2010.

About Chiara SKERATH (Soprano)
Born in 1987 in Belgium, Chiara Skerath studied at Colmar with Francis Jeser, then with Glenn Chambers at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. She performs regularly in famous venues such as Royaumont Abbey, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Escales Lyriques at l’île d’Yeu, or at Kammer Oper in Vienna.
She is the winner of three prizes at Belvedere International Competition in Vienna in 2010.

Alongside the conference, you will be able to watch an exhibition of photographs about rare machines and appliance made by French inventors from the 16th to the early 19th centuries. This monarchist era was a rich period for the development of the sciences and technics, led by the Kings.
This exhibition reveals a new, unexpected face of Versailles as a place of scientific inquiry in its most various forms: the Hall of Mirrors electricity experiment, Marley Machine on the banks of the Seine, burning mirror solar power demonstration, etc. It brings together works and instruments from the old royal collections, spectacular achievements of beauty and intelligence, for the first time.
